The following is a monthly list of selected journal articles and reports on tobacco topics. Please note that this list is not all-inclusive. We try to choose titles of interest to our tobacco control network, but we realize that there are many relevant articles that are not listed.

OTRU
This month saw two articles published by OTRU investigators. Chaiton and colleagues report on the short term behaviour changes after the Ontario menthol ban and found a high level of quit attempts and use of alternative flavoured products. Kaufman et al. report on a qualitative study of the impact of smoke-free housing policy in Waterloo and the Yukon.

Soneji et al. model the potential benefits and harms of e-cigarette use and estimate that e-cigarettes are associated with a net loss of 1.5 million life years. An analysis in the New England Journal of Medicine examines the potential impact of lowering the nicotine level in cigarettes, estimating a gain of 134 million life years. Using a Japanese cohort, Hu et al. find a high risk of hearing loss associated with smoking that disappears rapidly after smoking cessation.
