Hot Topics
Analysis of the major US cohort, the PATH study, found that both tobacco and e-cigarette advertising receptivity was associated with later conventional smoking. Jemal et al in the New England Journal of Medicine found that the pattern of historically higher rates of lung cancer among women in the US has reversed among those born since the mid-1960s. Also in the New England Journal of Medicine, a large randomized controlled trial compared e-cigarettes, nicotine replacement gum, and financial incentives for smoking cessation and found that financial incentives were the most effective. DeCarlo et al reports a new and potentially large thirdhand smoke exposure route inside a nonsmoking classroom during the summer time.
