Health Effects—COVID-19
Simons and colleagues from University College London update their systematic review on the association of COVID-19 and smoking which shows smokers at reduced risk of infection and former smokers at increased risk of hospitalization, but conclusions about causality are uncertain.

Cessation—E-Cigarettes
Stan Glantz and colleagues conducted a meta-analysis of e-cigarettes and smoking cessation, limiting their data to population-based studies, and find that e-cigarettes are detrimental to cessation in the population.

Health Effects—Cigarettes
The Global Burden of Disease study updated the burden associated with cardiovascular diseases. Tobacco accounted for 8.71 million deaths in 2019 of which 36.7% were cardiovascular disease.
