The New Zealand government released their action plan to achieve a smokefree New Zealand by 2025. This comprehensive plan includes a number of innovative strategies, including reduced nicotine cigarettes.

Industry—COVID

Usman and colleagues released a critique of papers that examined the relationship of COVID-19 and smoking. Their criticisms lead to the retraction of a paper this month that had found a protective effect of smoking on COVID-19 among a well-publicized paper that included an author who had accepted tobacco industry funding.
