This update highlights findings that were recently published in Kaufman P, Griffin K, Ferrence R, Cohen J, Perkins N. Smoking in Urban Outdoor Public Places: Behaviour, Experiences and Implications for Public Health. Health and Place 16: 961-968, 2010. Observation and interview findings confirm that smoking at entrances to public buildings is a problem. Since the use of entrances is unavoidable, there is potential for exposure to secondhand smoke on a daily basis for anyone entering and exiting the building.
