Prevention—E-cigarettes
OTRU researchers conducted a machine learning analysis of a cohort of youth and young adults, finding that place of last vape purchase, number of days a pod lasts, and the frequency of nicotine-containing vaping were the most important predictors for dependence among daily vapers, while race, sexual orientation and reporting treatment for heart disease were the most important predictors in non-daily vapers.

A study of LGBTQ2S+ young adults examined predictors of social acceptability of smoking and vaping indicating that results higher smoking acceptability was more common among those who currently smoke, currently vape, are younger, live in smaller cities, identify as a person of color, with variation by gender and sexual orientation.

CDC data found that cigarette smoking declined from 12.5% in 2020 to 11.5% in 2021, the lowest level recorded since 1965 while e-cigarette use increased slightly.
